April 2014 – Wilderness Collection’s Segera Retreat is the only hotel in Africa to make both the UK and USA Condé Nast Traveler’s 2014 Hot Lists of the editors’ favourite new places to stay. From a field of over 500 candidates, only 33 hotels were chosen for this prestigious listing on the grounds of their sense of place, personality and intuitive service.
Segera Retreat was selected as one of the ‘Best Way-Out-There’ hotels, along with properties in Newfoundland and Vietnam. This category celebrates hotels that are both destinations in themselves, and journeys. Segera is not just about the journey to the heart of Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau, but also the inner journey that begins the minute you arrive at the Retreat – a journey into wellness, luxury, fine organic dining and bespoke service, while you watch wildlife pass by from the comfort and privacy of your villa.
“We are delighted that Condé Nast Traveler has recognised Segera for being a place that is both ‘way out there’ in terms of exceeding our guests’ experiences and expectations, and a retreat where they can immediately feel at home”, said GM Jens Kozany. “Our team has worked hard to create a destination that is both out of this world, and authentically of and from the earth”, he added.
Segera Retreat offers a holistic wellness experience, from the use of locally-grown ingredients in the kitchen to the range of treatments on offer tapping into traditional herbal knowledge. The stunning contemporary African art collection of the owner of Segera, Jochen Zeitz, is on display and accessible throughout the Retreat, furthering the sense of being a guest in his private home. Days at Segera Retreat are designed around guests’ needs and desires and are perfectly pitched to ensure the balance between adventure and comfort is achieved.
