May 2013 – Kulala Desert Lodge has received a prestigious 2013 Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor for consistently earning high ratings from the site’s well-travelled members. This places the lodge in the top-performing 10% of all businesses worldwide on Tripadvisor.
With more than 32 million members and over 100 million reviews and opinions of hotels, restaurants and other travel-related businesses, Tripadvisor is one of the world’s most popular and largest travel communities.
“We are delighted that Kulala Desert Lodge has consistently received high ratings from our discerning guests and Tripadvisor members. Every day the lodge team goes the extra mile to ensure that guests visiting the Namib Desert enjoy a life-changing wilderness experience of this remarkable desertscape”, says Dave van Smeerdijk, Wilderness Safaris Marketing and Sales Director.
Situated within the Namib Desert on the 37 000-hectare private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, Kulala Desert Lodge is closest to the iconic Sossusvlei dunes. Comprising 23 thatched and canvas "kulalas" ("to sleep" in Oshiwambo), the lodge has a wrap-around veranda overlooking a waterhole which attracts a number of local wildlife, such as gemsbok, springbok, ostrich and jackal.
The flat rooftop decks are perfect for night sleep outs under the stars, followed by an early morning guided nature drive to Sossusvlei through the private gate on the Tsauchab River. Nature drives, walks and eco-sensitive, guided quad-biking are also offered through the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve. At an additional cost, a morning hot-air balloon safari offers a truly unique experience to soar above the magnificent sand dunes and desert.
