Wilderness Collection’s Odzala and Segera Featured in Travel + Leisure’s 2013 It List

May 7, 2013 | Wilderness Safaris

May 2013 – Wilderness Collection is proud to announce that two of its iconic safari destinations – Odzala Wilderness Camps in the Republic of Congo and Segera Retreat in Kenya – have been listed in the US Travel + Leisure’s It List of the world’s best new hotels for 2013.

This highly selective list is put together annually by the magazine’s editors and contributors who log thousands of miles to vet the most exciting hotel openings. It also acknowledges properties that are changing the travel landscape.

“Both Odzala and Segera share our philosophy of raising global awareness around sustainability. We are thrilled that they have both been rated amongst the world’s best new hotels and extremely proud of our staff who continually go the extra mile to ensure guests enjoy authentic wilderness experiences. It is in this way that we can continue to make a difference to sustainable ecotourism in Africa’s iconic wilderness areas”, says Bruce Simpson, Chief Operating Officer, Wilderness Collection.

Comprising two elegant camps, Lango and Ngaga, Odzala is situated in the premier rainforest reserve, Odzala-Kokoua National Park, in west central Africa, harbouring a high density of western lowland gorilla. It also plays host to a significant number of bird species, as well as chimpanzee, forest elephant, forest buffalo, lowland bongo, leopard, golden cat and a large number of primate species.

Run on solar energy, Segera Retreat consists of six private two-storey villas of wood and thatch, as well as the sumptuous Segera House and Villa Segera, overlooking the Laikipia Plateau towards Mount Kenya. Comprising 20 000 hectares (50 000 acres) that form part of a vital migratory corridor, this wildlife sanctuary also provides a permanent home to many vulnerable species such as the Critically Endangered Grevy’s zebra and locally threatened patas monkey.

Both destinations are committed to the 4Cs philosophy (Commerce, Conservation, Community and Culture) offering guests a life-changing wilderness journey, as well as the opportunity to reconnect with nature, themselves and the people around them.

The 2013 Travel + Leisure It List will be published in the June issue of the magazine. Alternatively, to view Odzala and Segera’s listings online click here:
