About us / Our People

Our people are courageous and caring, and dedicated to our planet.

The Wilderness Safaris family is made up of people who are fun loving and adventurous, yet passionate and committed to making a difference to people's lives and the world around them. Our camps and safaris are hosted by these warm and caring people, who love what they do. Our guides are the link between our guests and the intricacies of the natural world, sharing their knowledge with enthusiasm and humour. Such original individuals are a rare breed, dedicated to the values of Wilderness Safaris.

More than 85% of the people who work for us come from the communities surrounding the reserves and concession areas where we host our guests. As such they are connected to the environment and have a stake in its protection and sustainability. Extensive training and mentoring programmes enable the transfer of hospitality skills resulting in a uniquely southern African blend that is characteristic of the culture of service and enthusiasm in our camps.

Many of our people stay with us for considerable periods, while others take some of the Wilderness Safaris ethos with them when they change careers or move to other areas of the safari industry. We are equally happy with both scenarios and delight in personal growth and development as well as the idea that knowledge, beliefs and ethics should be exported and shared.

Many of our guests become part of the Wilderness family as well and return for annual visits over decades in some cases, their commitment to the greater environmental and conservation cause shared with the friends they have made in our camp managers, our guides and staff that they have seen grow over the years.

We all look forward to welcoming you to the extended Wilderness Safaris family.
