A Great Wilderness Journey with Richard Avalino
My recent trip started at Toka Leya and ended in the beautiful Okavango Delta.
At Toka Leya we enjoyed a sundowner boat cruise and we had great sightings of hippo, crocodile and lots of water birds.
The following day we left Livingstone for Kasane and we did a boat cruise along the Chobe River, which was also very productive, with a large herd of elephants crossing onto Sedudu Island, hippos grazing, a large herd of buffalo, a crocodile stalking warthog and impala, and once again lots of water birds.
We shortly arrived in the Linyanti, and our safari experience became incredible! We enjoyed two sightings of two female leopards feeding on two different occasions. Each day we enjoyed elephants in camp, and enjoyed yet another leopard sighting from the comfort of camp. General game sightings were phenomenal too, with sightings of giraffe, zebra, kudu, roan, sable, baboon and a number of mongoose.
From here we moved to the Khwai area and were graced by the presence of two large male lions that entertained us with their booming roars. We were further treated to a sighting of the resident wild dog pack, which currently has nine little pups. Each night we were visited by elephant and hippo in the camp area.
The last stop was Xigera Camp, and what a great way to end our trip. The highlight was seeing the many elephants in the area as they crossed the scenic floodplains. We also saw marabou storks and vultures feeding on a giraffe carcass.
What a fantastic trip!
