The weather at the start of the month was rather overcast and windy. The Lake was rough and temperatures were cool. As the month went on, however, we saw the weather calming slightly and becoming brighter and hotter. The last few days of the month have been very humid and hot during the day and cold at night.

Now that the Lake has settled we can see a drop in water. Rocks are protruding out further than before. The grass and small shrubs along the banks are all becoming brown showing signs of the dry season.

Our birds are still tweeting though, and seem to be getting more active. A highlight for us as the Inn is that we are getting regular visits of a genet.

Children in the Wilderness
Chintheche Inn’s Wesley was recently at Bandawe Girls Secondary School to witness the graduation of some Children in the Wilderness (CITW) sponsored students. In addition to the conservation and Eco-Club programmes, CITW has also been providing scholarships to deserving less privileged students to ensure they continue their education.

Baobab Tree Seedlings
As part of the reforestation and community work, Chintheche Inn has been working with the surrounding communities to plant trees. Master Banda has been managing the tree nurseries and also organising community training programmes to support these conservation efforts.

It was with great excitement then, that Chintheche Inn planted its first baobab tree from seeds planted (in the nursery) by managers Donna and Steven. We now have four healthy-looking baobab plants and if we live a few hundred years, perhaps we would see these trees grow and mature. I guess this will be a legacy for our great-great-grandchildren.
