The month of May has been outstanding, not only with our wildlife sightings, but also with our guest feedback. Obert Lusinga has taken over the General Management role at Chitabe from Alex Prinsloo who was at Chitabe for many years. We would all like to wish Alex the best in his future endeavours and to welcome Obert to the Chitabe Family!

May has been relatively mild, but winter is on our doorstep with early morning game drives being rather chilly - so best to have several layers that can be peeled off later when the sun comes out and warms the day. Hot water bottles are being provided in the mornings and evenings – just to give a bit of added warmth to the morning drives and to the beds.

The waters are slowly filtering down through the Delta and should be reaching Chitabe in the next two months. The concession is looking rather dry due to the less than usual rainfall during the January and February months, but the floodwaters will bring some welcome relief. The Chitabe Airstrip had a complete rebuild and on one occasion the construction team had to delay the start of the working day due to a pack of wild dogs making a kill on the runway.

Wildlife Sightings
Game drive sightings at Chitabe for the month of May have been fantastic. Our guests were fortunate to be able to witness leopard kills, cheetah with cubs, and several lion kills. On an evening drive with the Anthony, the guests watched in awe as a pride of lion took down a giraffe.

The general game in the area has been superb with some large herds of buffalo frequenting the area. The lion, as always, jumped on the opportunity and managed to take down a buffalo from within the herd.

Guest Comments
“Everything was perfect, the beds were the BEST! Definitely the wildlife, from the wilddogs to the lions to the leopard and lastly the seven cheetahs we saw of which five were cubs the size of a tea-cup, cute. Also sitting at the fire chatting, wonderful really.” Celeste and Gary

“Oats was a fantastic guide – stayed out the entire day with us both on days. Extremely informative, answered all of our many questions, patiently and thoroughly. Loved the Monday night dinner, staff seemed to be enjoying themselves which makes us feel welcome and relaxed.” Lisa & Brian

“The staff is the most friendly we have ever met. Our guide BB was amazing. This was one of the best vacation places we have ever been! Exceeded our expectations. Love the tents, out- door shower, hot water bottles, campfire at dusk and brunch. Our full day game drive with lunch by the river was amazing!” Kristin & Adam

“There was an outstanding game drive with a Cheetah and five cubs and an impala killing…To make it exceptional, there was a hyaena and the two leopards.. Thanks to BB’s best very focused search.” Marianne & Dieter

“We enjoyed all of our game drives with Anthony. Having cocktails out in the bush by candlelight (even candles on the termite mound) was memorable. Every person we came in contact with was charming, polite, informative and helpful.” Elizabeth

“Following a Leopard for an hour was magical, seeing a pride of lions stop at a watering hole was special and truly unforgettable stay!” Mark
