Climate and Landscape
The last few months were particularly windy at Doro Nawas but this didn’t deter the big mammals from entertaining guests with all manner of sightings and interactions.
The highlight for most guests at Doro Nawas is definitely the elephants, everyone being amazed by these magnificent beasts out here where it seems to be so dry and inhospitable. They especially enjoy seeing the Rosie Herd which loves to drink from the manmade dam near camp.
Giraffe, gemsbok (oryx), zebra, springbok, steenbok and even a young kudu were spotted out on nature drives while a colourful bokmakierie was a delightful tick for the desert birders.
An excursion to the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein is always fascinating for our Doro Nawas guests; this is usually combined with a trip to the Damara Living Museum and its amazing cultural insights.
“Elephant tracking was breathtakingly awesome, watched the family of 14 elephants over an hour.”
