Climate and Landscape
The weather in May has been fantastic. We are almost into winter and the temperatures are beautiful for a nice day at the beach or a stroll through the forest. At night it is getting a little chilly – but just a little! The temperature of the ocean has been sitting around the 24 – 25 degree Celsius mark so swimming, snorkelling and diving have been a pleasure. The sea has generally been calm with good visibility and the fish seem to be enjoying it as well judging by their sheer abundance!
Most guests have enjoyed viewing the numerous fish species – and more often than not an eel or two as well – at Lala Nek whilst snorkelling. We had a humorous situation when one very inquisitive honeycomb moray eel took a real liking to one of our male guests and decided that it wanted to be “best friends”. It proceeded to follow him around while he snorkelled, until the guide had to use his flipper to steer the eel back to the rocks. It was funny watching this big guy trying his best to swim away from his newly-acquired best buddy whilst everyone else watched in fascination.
On the diving side, guests have had great interaction with turtles and rays and the dive reports have really been fantastic. With warm water, good visibility and mostly calm water conditions it has turned out to be a very nice time of year to visit Rocktail Beach Camp.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
