Once again, the Moporota Pride decided to head into camp just before tea in broad daylight. Vasco the General Manager was watching them as he drove out of camp to do a guest pick up and alerted camp quickly. This is the second time in the past week and they had just finished off one impala and missed a second when they decided to lay in the shade for a while and rest up before nightfall. All the activity during the day had tired them out as it was an unusually hot winter’s afternoon.

However, one young male decided that he did not want to lie in the dry grass and so managed to walk onto the board walk near the Mombo curio shop which was at ground level. He proceeded to make his way towards Little Mombo, whereby he lay outside Room 9. After 30 minutes he carried on with his little exploration, turning towards Little Mombo where one of the managers, Ruby had quickly lifted the trusty hyaena gate and therefore he had no option but to walk back, clamber unceremoniously down the steps and carry on towards the drowsy bunch fast asleep in the grass! All the guests were safe in vehicles long before he decided to climb onto the board walk. Credit given to all managers and guides to make sure all staff members were aware and that guests could watch this amazing and unusual sighting of a young male lion on the board walk from the safety of their vehicles.
