Date: 13 May 2013
Photographers: Lopang Lops Rampeba and Junior
Observer: Lopang Lops Rampeba

One night, just after pre-dinner drinks, I was on my way to our senior staff tents when I heard an unusual crunching of grasses and leaves around the nearby small bushes.

Out of curiosity I shone the light: I was amazed to see an adult serpent about 1.8 to 2 metres long. From what I could see, it looked like a black mamba with a baby scrub hare kill in its mouth which it was trying to swallow. This was not an easy task, and the snake was not worried about my presence - it was concentrating on its prey. This gave me a good opportunity to photograph it. Only one of our guests was interested in seeing this, but he was accompanied by many guides and managers!

We stayed there watching for at least 30 minutes before leaving to give the serpent some time alone to accomplish its mission.
