Introduce your young family to the wonder of wild Africa

Seba Camp is the base for one of the most interesting studies being conducted on elephants. Over a period of five years, five riding elephants from nearby Abu Camp have been re-released into the Okavango Delta wilderness with the cooperation of the Botswana Department of Wildlife and National Parks.

These elephants have all been collared and their locations are pinpointed by researchers based at Seba Camp three times a day. These daily movements are backed by additional on-the-ground monitoring and ongoing observation of their behaviour - especially their interactions with the truly wild elephants of the Okavango Delta.

The release programme has provided a wealth of material for a research project being carried out by Dr Kate Evans of the Mammal Research Unit of the School of Biological Science at the University of Bristol in the UK and her assistants. This work will help the Botswana government in its management of the country's 110 000 elephants, the largest remaining elephant population in the world.
