January 2018 – Wilderness Safaris Bisate Lodge in Rwanda and Segera Retreat in Kenya have been listed as two of “the best hotels in the world” in USA Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List 2018.
Bisate Lodge and Segera Retreat are committed to creating life-changing journeys that make a difference
“We are extremely honoured that the editors of Condé Nast Traveler have recognised both Segera and Bisate amongst their favourite and best hotels in the world for 2018. Our emphasis in terms of luxury is ensuring that our guests experience life-changing journeys that not only expose them to new landscapes, cultures and ecosystems, but to new ways of viewing the world, our place in it, and ultimately its sustainability”, said Wilderness Safaris CMO, Chris Roche.
Condé Nast Traveler’s 2018 Gold List features the editors’ pick of the best hotels in the world, spanning six continents and 54 countries. According to the team at Condé Nast Traveler, “They're the hotels we return to time and again, and daydream about long after we're home. They're the best in the world”.
“We are committed to offering world-class service and exceptional safari experiences”, added Roche, “but equally as dedicated to sustainable and authentic ecotourism that makes a positive impact to conservation and community empowerment. Whilst offering the most unashamed (but appropriate and sustainable) luxury for their particular circumstances, both Bisate and Segera are strongly rooted in a core cause or purpose with this ‘reason for being’ forming an integral part of the holistic guest experience. It is not just about offering the best locations and the most elegant and stylish accommodation and hospitality, but also about experiencing a life-changing journey that gives back to the protection of our natural world at the same time”.
Bisate Lodge, situated next to the renowned Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, comprises six spacious forest villas that provide a luxurious base from which to enjoy an extraordinary gorilla conservation experience. Its vision is to offer a world-class ecotourism experience that will make a dramatic and far-reaching positive impact on more than ‘just’ the mountain gorilla. Bisate’s pioneering reforestation project, which has already seen over 17 000 indigenous trees planted to date, community engagement, dedication to culture, eco-friendly operational systems and more, takes guests beyond the ‘gorilla express’ and enriches their experience in Rwanda.
Segera Retreat, located in the heart of Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau, comprises eight timber-and-thatch villas. It is a tangible example of successful multiple land-use efforts and proof that luxury can be sustainable. Segera’s ecologically-sound practices proactively enhance comfort, with solar installations providing all energy, recycled and captured rain water feeding the verdant gardens, and home-grown vegetables pulled fresh from the earth, thus enriching the delicious daily menus. Set on 20 000 hectares (50 000 acres) of protected land, Segera serves as a vital migratory corridor for species like elephant, and enabling the free movement of wildlife in the area, including Endangered species such as patas monkeys, Grevy’s zebra and wild dog.
