February 2018 – Wilderness Safaris Bisate Lodge, which opened in Rwanda in June 2017, has been selected as part of Travel + Leisure’s 2018 It List, Travel + Leisure’s selection of the best new and newly renovated hotels around the globe.
Bisate Lodge offers world-class accommodation and service with a local Rwandan flair
Selected by Travel + Leisure (T+L) editors, the 2018 It List features 56 of the world’s best new hotels and resorts. The editors looked at thousands of hotel openings with “one mission in mind: what properties will truly be game changers for our readers”; highlighting Bisate as a “one-of-a-kind in that it is Rwanda’s first luxury safari accommodation”.
“We are extremely proud of our team at Bisate and honoured that the editors of T+L have recognised Bisate as one of their best new hotels in the world”, said Wilderness Safaris Chief Marketing Officer, Chris Roche. “Since opening in 2017, the emphasis at Bisate has been based on the principle that ‘purpose is the new luxury’, ensuring that each journey becomes a life-changing experience which exposes our guests to new landscapes, cultures and ecosystems, as well as to new ways of viewing the world, our place in it, and ultimately its sustainability”.
According to T+L, “Rwanda’s comeback in the tourism space is remarkable, given that it was embroiled in a civil war just 24 years ago”. They go on to describe Bisate as “part of the progress, and leading more travellers to experience this beautiful corner of the world”.Editor in Chief Nathan Lump, said: “In the highly competitive landscape of new and newly renovated hotels that open their doors around the world every year, new entrants must have something special: distinctive style, a transporting location, exceptionally interesting guest experiences, flawless service. The hotels and resorts on this year’s It List have all demonstrated qualities that set them apart, and represent those that we at Travel + Leisure believe will satisfy the world’s most sophisticated travelers, today and in the years to come.”
Bisate comprises six spacious forest villas set adjacent to the world-renowned Volcanoes National Park (VNP). The lodge’s richly detailed interiors exhibit a variety of woven materials with a strong resonance in Rwandan culture. Each 91-square-metre villa consists of a generous yet intimate combination of bedroom, reception space and bathroom, all warmed by a central fireplace and with breathtaking views out across a private deck towards Mount Bisoke.
Located within easy driving distance of Park Headquarters, Bisate is strongly rooted in a core cause, or purpose, with this ‘reason for being’ forming an integral part of the holistic guest experience. “It is not just about offering the best location and the most elegant and stylish accommodation and hospitality, but also about experiencing a life-changing journey that gives back to the protection of our natural world at the same time”, Roche added.
Bisate is deeply committed to Wilderness Safaris’ 4Cs sustainability ethos of Commerce, Community, Culture and Conservation. Its pioneering reforestation efforts have already seen over 17 000 indigenous trees planted to date which will ultimately have a far-reaching positive impact on an iconic Critically Endangered species: the mountain gorilla. In addition to its conservation efforts and eco-friendly operational systems, Bisate’s community engagement and cultural exposure takes guests beyond the ‘gorilla express’; truly enriching their experience in this inspiring country.
