Climb Mount Kenya with Segera Retreat

Apr 19, 2016 | Wilderness Safaris

April 2016 – Segera Retreat has launched an exciting eight-day adventure from 19 to 27 September 2016, giving guests the opportunity to join likeminded explorers in an exhilarating climb of Mount Kenya whilst also enjoying time at the Retreat both before and afterwards to acclimatise, relax and recover in spectacular surrounds.

“Standing at 5 199 metres above sea level, Mount Kenya is the second-highest mountain in Africa and, in our eyes, the most beautiful. This is why we have joined forces with Julian Wright, an internationally-qualified mountaineering guide from African Ascents, to offer this once-in-a-lifetime adventure to our guests”, says Segera GM Jens Kozany.

Combining a number of dramatic and diverse environments with incredible and challenging treks, Mount Kenya is considered a true “climber’s mountain”. Also situated at a generously high altitude in the central Laikipia Highlands, Segera is the ideal location for pre-climb wellness and acclimatisation.

During the first two days at Segera Retreat, a dedicated personal trainer will be on hand to support and prepare guests and fellow explorers for the excursion ahead. Morning exercise classes, guided game walks and diverse outdoor activities will be combined with a nutritious menu, using fresh produce from Segera’s own gardens, to ensure optimal energy for the climb.

Together with Segera’s Field and Experience Guides, Julian Wright will then guide the guests on a five-day, four-night Timau Route track expedition. The charming Timau Route, which is 36 km to the Point Lenana Summit, offers a feeling of solitude and peace on this great mountain hike. The route brings to life some of the most beautiful and scenic sites on the mountain, and offers the best chance to see wildlife and birdlife (at higher altitudes than expected), with an abundance of zebra, eland, duiker and buffalo. All in all, this expedition takes five days, with campsites set up by a team of trained local porters and guides who will accompany guests throughout the climb.

After this revitalising climb, guests will return to Segera for a final two nights to relax, recover and unwind. Segera’s wellness team will also provide a complimentary daily 90-minute massage and guests will have full use of the Rasul Tower in the wellness centre.

This unique adventure starts from USD 8 900 per person and includes accommodation in a Standard Villa, all meals and beverages, guided game drives and walks at Segera, as well as the full mountain excursion, including porters and guides.
