January 2016 – Wilderness Safaris is delighted to announce that Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, situated in the private Palmwag Concession in north-west Namibia, has been named as one of Andrew Harper’s Grand Award winners for 2016.
“As we continuously strive to provide our guests with life-changing wilderness adventures unlike anything that can be experienced elsewhere, we are extremely proud to be one of only two African properties to receive this distinguished award. For us, excellence means not only going above and beyond in terms of offering highly personalised service and unparalleled luxury, but also embodying a sense of place that speaks to the camp’s exceptional and remote desert location, and this esteemed recognition reinforces that we are on the right track”, says Mike Wassung, CEO of Wilderness Safaris Namibia.
Accessible only by light aircraft, Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp operates on 100% solar power and comprises eight stylish en-suite tents (including one family unit) each with a shaded outdoor lounge area where guests can relax and enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding desert, while the main area includes a lounge, bar area, dining room, fire pit, swimming pool and deck.
Activities make the most of the diverse landscapes, with guests exploring the area on foot, by vehicle and by air along with expert Wilderness Safaris guides. Unique attractions include true desert oases found in the Hoanib floodplains, as well as unique game-viewing opportunities. The area is home to desert-adapted elephant, as well as gemsbok, giraffe, springbok and occasionally lion and rhino.
The Grand Awards recognise the best properties and travel experiences from the past 12 months. To be considered for the awards, properties had to be relatively small in size, possess strong individual personalities, offer a relaxing atmosphere and demonstrate a consistent devotion to personal service. Discussing his highlights of 2015 and his visit to Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, Editor-in-Chief, Andrew Harper, said: “I enjoyed every second of my stay”.
The full list of Grand Award winners appears in the January 2016 issue of Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report and on AndrewHarper.com.
