December 2017 –Little Kulala, Wilderness Safaris’ luxurious desert retreat situated in the private 27 000-hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve in Namibia, has won The Style Junkies Awards in the Experience of a Lifetime category.
Little Kulala offers a range of life-changing desert experiences
“It is an honour to receive this endorsement and to be recognised for our commitment to creating life-changing journeys that exceed our guests’ expectations”, said Wilderness Safaris Namibia MD, Alexandra Margull. “Our focus at Little Kulala is to provide an exclusive experience that not only changes lives but also exposes our guests to a range of new and amazing ways of viewing the world”.
The Style Junkies, an Amsterdam-based independent luxury travel website, launched its awards programme in 2014 to recognise the world’s best travel experiences and stand-out hotels. The winner of the Experience of a Lifetime category is chosen to recognise the ‘best hotel in the world’ that offers guests the most memorable journey. According to The Style Junkies, Little Kulala won the award for delivering extraordinary experiences and fulfilling holiday dreams. “You’ll definitely come home with a suitcase full of memories”.
Situated at the foot of the majestic Sossusvlei dunes, Little Kulala consists of 11 thatched "kulalas" (the word means “to sleep”), which merge impeccably into the desert landscape, each with private plunge pool, both indoor and outdoor showers and a rooftop Star Bed for romantic star gazing. The camp offers close proximity and private access (for Wilderness Safaris vehicles exclusively) to Sossusvlei with its world-famous dunes and clay pans, as well as a diverse range of activities on offer to explore the splendour, solitude and stark beauty of the Namib Desert. Guests are also able to discover the dramatic Kulala Wilderness Reserve on quad bike, by hot air balloon, on a nature drive or on foot.
Little Kulala is deeply committed to Wilderness Safaris’ 4Cs sustainability ethos of Commerce, Community, Culture and Conservation. Back in 1996, when Wilderness Safaris first started operating in this area, the locale had previously been used for subsistence goat farming and precious little indigenous wildlife remained. Today, with careful rehabilitation, the land and its wildlife is back to its former glory. The staff are also proud to share their rich cultural heritage with guests. Monday night dinners are under the stars in a traditional boma where guests can enjoy traditional singing and dancing and experience the team’s warm and sincere Namibian hospitality.
Describing the factors the judging panel considered when selecting this year’s winners, The Style Junkies Founder, Myrthe Strjibos said, “Apart from all the expected bells and whistles, a hotel is good-looking, authentic, personal and truly exceptional. You can really feel the love, passion and pureness. Furthermore, all the award winners deliver the most extraordinary experiences”.
