October 2015 – Wilderness Safaris flagship camps in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Mombo and Little Mombo, have been recognised in the 28th annual Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. The camps were rated ninth best in the Top 30 Resorts in Africa, with a score of 91.7.
“We are thrilled to be included in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler’s 2015 Reader’s Choice Awards,” expressed Wilderness Safaris CEO Keith Vincent. “Mombo and Little Mombo truly represent our core values and commitment to conservation and sustainable ecotourism, and this award certainly validates the excellent service and experiences our staff and guides strive to provide for our guests on a daily basis.”
Condé Nast Traveler announced the results of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards on 21 October, ranking the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, airlines, and cruise lines in the world. More than 128 000 dedicated readers voted for over 5 000 hotels, hundreds of cities and islands, dozens of cruise ships, airlines and airports, resulting in more than 1 500 of the best travel experiences in the world.
Located in the heart of the Okavango Delta on the northern tip of Chief’s Island within the Moremi Game Reserve, Mombo is world renowned for its exceptional game viewing. The area boasts enormous concentrations of plains game and predators which may even be seen from the camps’ decks, with the surrounding floodplains teeming with game year-round. The luxurious, spacious en-suite tents (nine at Mombo and three at Little Mombo) are raised a few feet off the ground to provide scenic views of the surrounds.
In 2016, Mombo and Little Mombo Camps will be entirely rebuilt to create an even more luxurious safari experience, while continuing its tradition to conservation and commitment to Wilderness Safaris’ 4Cs sustainability ethic (Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce).
“We are excited about our future plans for Mombo and our overall operations in Botswana – the country in which Wilderness Safaris had its humble beginnings more than three decades ago. Although the company has grown significantly over the years, our roots remain here and everything we do is underpinned by the same values that inspired its conception”, Vincent added.
The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and are commonly known as “the best of the best of travel.” Under Editor in Chief Pilar Guzmán, the Readers’ Choice Awards have become more selective and specific to the passions that inspire today’s travellers.
