November 2015 – Tour de Wilderness is delighted to announce that the Nedbank Tour de Tuli has been shortlisted for the Discovery Sport Industry Awards 2016, as one of six finalists in the “Sport Participation Event of the Year” category.

"We are thrilled to have made it through to the final stage of this prestigious awards programme. We pride ourselves on delivering an event that continues to surpass participants’ expectations in terms of experience and hospitality all for the extremely worthy cause of raising funds for Children in the Wilderness. This recognition is a tremendous source of encouragement as we continue our work to ensure yet another unforgettable Nedbank Tour de Tuli event for 2016”, says Tour Director, Nicola Harris.

The Nedbank Tour de Tuli is southern Africa’s premier mountain bike event, taking a maximum of 350 cyclists across 300 km of challenging and remote wilderness terrain in Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. All funds raised by the Tour are channelled directly into Children in the Wilderness (CITW), a non-profit organisation that runs sustainable environmental education programmes to bridge the divide between communities and the wildlife areas they live next to. This year saw the 11th edition of the Tour, and a record-breaking total of R2.75 million raised for CITW.

Rewarding the greatest achievements in the business of sport, the Discovery Sports Industry Awards programme is organised by the Sport Industry Group SA and recognises outstanding and innovative work in various categories. The final shortlist was selected by leading industry figures during an intensive two-day analysis and judging process, overseen by Deloitte. The winners will be announced at a ceremony attended by sportsmen and celebrities at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on 11 February 2016.

James Monteith, Managing Director of the Sport Industry Group SA, said: “The awards continue to break records year on year. This year has seen the highest number of entries yet, with impressive results and creative work displayed across the board. The official shortlist for 2016 was chosen from hundreds of world-class and innovative entries and shows the industry is continuing its impressive upward trend, whilst reflecting the tenacity of the industry”.
