December 2017 – The renowned and newly-refurbished Savuti Camp, located in the private Linyanti Concession along the Savute Channel in Botswana, has received an extensive softs upgrade including stylish new interiors, improved lighting, expanded decks and new walkways.
In line with Wilderness Safaris’ commitment to create life-changing journeys for its guests, Savuti Camp’s eight large en-suite tents, including a family room, have undergone a complete makeover, with new wardrobes, lighting and a new desk and chair in the sitting areas. The main area comprises new sofas, desks, lamps and décor, while the dining area is set with new tables, chairs and lighting. The pool and fire decks have been extended, the bar rebuilt and large feature umbrellas added to the pool area.
Light-coloured interiors were chosen to complement the geometric design of the throws and other décor elements such as locally-sourced African artefacts found throughout the camp. According to interior designer, Michele Throssell, “The existing colours were very dark and old fashioned, so our aim was to breathe new life into the space with a refreshed look and feel, using lighter colours as slip covers on sofas, and accents on the colours of the environment, such as rust greens and taupes. We also added detail to the cushions and throws to bring in some colour and texture to the lighter canvas”.
In addition to offering exclusive safari accommodation, Savuti is committed to Wilderness Safaris’ 4Cs sustainability ethos of Commerce, Community, Culture and Conservation, operating with as light an eco-footprint as possible. The camp offers diverse water and land activities, such as morning and afternoon game drives and exclusive game viewing from the Ntshe woodpile hide at Manchwe Pan, which is renowned for attracting large concentrations of elephant throughout the year. The Star Bed is available for adventurous guests wishing to sleep out under the stars.
“We are delighted with Savuti’s new elegant look and feel. The camp is now perfectly positioned for guests to enjoy the exceptional game viewing in the concession and exclusive, unrivalled access to both sides of the Savute Channel, especially with the water from the channel now only flowing about a kilometre past the camp. This lowered availability of water in a dry savannah area makes Savuti a game hub with extraordinary winter wildlife concentrations – excellent lion, cheetah, wild dog and leopard, elephant, buffalo herds, zebra and even eland; it is definitely one of the best game-viewing areas in Linyanti and certainly across the entire Savute Channel”, commented Kim Nixon, Wilderness Safaris Botswana MD.
Guests who have visited Savuti concluded that, “Not only is Wilderness Safaris Savuti at the top of its game in terms of the beauty of the lodge, the experience of our guide and the animal sightings were over the top – and this was not our first trip to Africa, nor our first safari camp”.
