August 2016 – Segera is proud to announce that the Kenya Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) has awarded the Retreat with a five-star tourism rating – the only safari lodge in Kenya to achieve this prestigious status.
The latest findings from the Kenya TRA were published in the Kenya Gazette on 5 August 2016. E-Turbo News described the ratings as hard to come by in Kenya and said that Segera’s five-star ranking was “a vote of confidence for the owners and management team, which has for some time now been given international recognition as Kenya's poshest of the posh”.
The TRA undertakes national classification of all regulated tourism activities and services in Kenya with the aim of ensuring high standards and quality of services. “One of the TRA’s values is commitment to excellence which mirrors our aim to exceed our guests’ expectations on a daily basis, offering an authentic and holistic wildlife safari whilst remaining committed to our 4Cs sustainability ethos of Commerce, Community, Culture and Conservation”, said Segera GM, Jens Kozany.
“To be the only five-star rated camp in Kenya is testament to the hard work of the entire Segera team and the vision of our founder and owner Jochen Zeitz. We look forward to welcoming many more guests to this beautiful part of Kenya and to continue pioneering best practice in the region”, he added.
Segera is a wildlife sanctuary located at the foot of Mount Kenya in Laikipia. It offers the classic East African safari experience in addition to giving guests the opportunity to experience Segera’s unique lifestyle based on sustainability – meals are made from organic, local produce and the Retreat’s spa offers a range of treatments that tap into traditional herbal knowledge.
As a hub of Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary African Art), Segera features a notable, contemporary African art collection which is on display throughout the Retreat. Days at Segera are designed around guests’ needs and desires that are perfectly pitched to ensure the balance between adventure and comfort.
