January 2017 – Wilderness Safaris is proud to announce that Segera Retreat in Kenya has been listed as one of Condé Nast Traveler’s “favourite hotels in the world” in its coveted 2017 Gold List, published in the January 2017 issue of the magazine.

"We are delighted that Segera has been listed in the prestigious Gold List for the second consecutive year and we couldn't be more proud of our incredible team, flying the flag for Kenya and Africa. What an amazing way to start the new year”, said Jochen Zeitz, owner of Segera.

The 2017 Gold List spans six continents and 46 countries and features Condé Nast’s editors’ picks of their favourite hotels in the world – ones that they “return to time and time again, and daydream about long after returning home.”

Segera is one of only six African lodges to have made the prestigious listing in the editors’ “Favourite African Safaris” category, and one of just two in Kenya. Condé Nast recommends Segera for “…a large hit of luxury at the end of a dusty tour. Hole up in the spa, beside the pool, and savour every bite of that seriously thoughtful organic food.”

Situated in the heart of Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau, Segera is a tangible example of successful multiple land-use efforts and proof that luxury can be sustainable. Its ecologically-sound practices proactively enhance comfort, with vast solar installations providing all energy and heating dramatic outdoor baths, recycled and captured rain water feeding the verdant gardens, and home-grown vegetables pulled fresh from the earth enriching daily menus.

Together with the support of the Zeitz Foundation to achieve a healthy and holistic balance of
Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce (known as the 4Cs), Segera is at the forefront of change in Kenya; what started as degraded land a decade ago has literally been brought to life. Set on 20 000 hectares (50 000 acres) of protected land, Segera serves as a vital migratory corridor for species like elephant, enabling the free movement of wildlife in the area. Segera offers the ultimate health and wellness retreat for guests committed to the conservation of nature, as well as to the conservation of self – mind, body and spirit.
