The River Club Donates Solar Study Lamps to Simonga School

Feb 11, 2014 | Wilderness Safaris

January 2014 – Thanks to guests staying at The River Club, Zambia, an innovative donation of solar study lamps was made to each student in the top class of Simonga School in Simonga Village. Thanks to these lamps, the students can now complete their homework in their homes at night. Geoff and Bonnie Morgan from Australia, with the support of Sandy Houston from USA, made this possible.

The Morgans, who stayed at The River Club in 2013, sourced the enormously practical solar lights from Australia. Sandy Houston sponsored the first class batch in December 2013, with the students receiving their lights at the beginning of the academic year.

“We are very grateful to our guests for supplying and sponsoring these solar study lamps. The children were absolutely thrilled with their gifts as it is often difficult for them to do their homework or study at home after sunset. We now need to ensure that we can purchase a steady supply for the rest of the school and are therefore currently raising funds for the next set of lights,” said The River Club’s owner, Peter Jones.

Situated just 18 km upstream from Victoria Falls, The River Club is the perfect base from which to explore the area and have myriad adventures – from local village visits and tours of Livingstone Town and the Zambian side of the Falls, to tiger fishing (catch-and-release) and game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. The River Club also recently opened the Princess Mary Suite, offering the perfect experience for a small family or group of six friends looking for exceptional food and hospitality on the banks of the Zambezi.
