October 2015 – Wilderness Safaris Explorations is delighted to announce the launch of a new privately-guided Botswana Exploration for 2016 – Okavango Channels and Plains. This six-night safari, valid for set departures from January to April 2016, covers the prime game-viewing areas of the Santawani Concession at Gomoti Tented Camp, coupled together with the iconic Delta water experience offered at Xigera.

Gomoti Camp; game walks and mokoro activities with experienced Exploration guides

“Summer is a spectacular time of year to be in the Delta and this new Exploration showcases the very best of what the season has to offer”, says Simon Stobbs, Wilderness Safaris Explorations Manager. “The migratory birds with their breeding plumage, dramatic thunderstorms and lush green terrain create an explosion of colour, not to mention the arrival of the birthing season, which makes for excellent photographic opportunities to capture wildlife together with their young and the predators that are never far behind.”

Starting from Maun International Airport, guests will be met by their experienced Wilderness Safaris Explorations guide before being transferred by road to Gomoti Tented Camp in the Okavango Delta’s Santawani Concession – their base for the next three nights. Activities include interpretive day and night game drives and guided bush walks through this wildlife-rich part of Botswana, known for its abundance of plains game which, in turn, attracts high concentrations of predators, such as lion, leopard and wild dog.

Guests will then be transferred by light aircraft to Xigera Camp for the next three nights. The main inundation of water in the Delta only arrives at Xigera in April, which means that while there will still be plenty of channels for guests to explore by boat and mokoro, a large portion of the concession will be dry. This offers ideal conditions for game drives, giving guests the opportunity to experience the best of both water- and land-based activities. On Day 7, guests will be transferred back to Maun airport by light aircraft.

As well as the Okavango Channels and Plains, Wilderness Explorations offers two additional Botswana Explorations:

  • The Great Wilderness Journey (10 nights / 11 days) – This Exploration combines the Victoria Falls (Zambian side) with a safari exploring northern Botswana, from the wetlands of the Okavango Delta to the floodplains of the Linyanti.
  • Botswana Summer Encounter (10 nights / 11 days; December – March) – A journey that reveals the life-filled summer season of Botswana, starting in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and travelling to the Okavango Delta and Linyanti before ending on the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls.

Wilderness Explorations are fully-serviced cross-country safaris that cater for small groups (between two and eight guests) on a scheduled basis, or are tailor-made for private groups. A highly trained and experienced guide leads the Exploration from beginning to end, sharing their in-depth knowledge of the areas in which they work. These journeys all offer guests access to remote, pristine areas and outstanding wildlife, allowing for a truly authentic African experience.
