February 2016 – Untouched pristine wilderness areas, spectacular scenery, starry nights, a sense of seclusion and luxury – the combination of these elements and more ensure that Wilderness Safaris is perfectly positioned to provide honeymooners with unforgettable romantic experiences.
As Africa's leading sustainable ecotourism operator, we are constantly striving to reinvent and refine our honeymoon offering to showcase the romance of Africa in diverse ways: lantern-lit bush dining under the stars, private bush picnics in the Delta or romantic desert sundowners, to name a few. Added to this, many of our camps include special touches that enhance the natural romantic setting that surrounds them, from indulgent spa treatments to outdoor baths and even the opportunity to sleep under the night skies in a private Star Bed”, says Wilderness Safaris Chief Sales Officer, Dave Bennett.
Although all of Wilderness Safaris camps offer something special for every guest, here are just a few of the company’s top honeymoon destinations:
Serra Cafema Camp (Namib Desert, Namibia) - This is one of the most remote camps in southern Africa, situated in the extreme north-west on the banks of the Kunene River. The luxurious honeymoon villa has exceptional views, complete with a romantic mosquito-net draped four-poster bed.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp (Skeleton Coast, Namibia) - Offering a unique combination of luxury and adventure, Hoanib comprises eight large tents, each comprising stylish en-suite bedrooms with shaded outdoor decks and offers all the luxuries and amenities guests could want for an unforgettable honeymoon. Activities range from private picnics atop sand dunes to Skeleton Coast explorations.
Little Kulala Camp (Sossusvlei, Namibia) - A luxurious desert retreat, situated near Sossusvlei, Namibia’s “Sand Sea” is known for its enormous dunes and clear starry skies. The 11 thatched “kulalas” each have a private plunge pool, indoor and outdoor showers, along with a rooftop bed for sleeping under the stars.
Linkwasha Camp (Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe) - As the most luxurious camp in Hwange, Linkwasha features a fresh, contemporary design that makes the most of its spectacular location. Multi-level platforms provide different views and a selection of private dining areas where honeymooners can enjoy intimate dinners.
Toka Leya Camp (Victoria Falls, Zambia) - Recently refurbished, each of Toka Leya’s 12 safari-style tents now features an outdoor bath, as well as an expansive deck with a private drop-down sitting area where guests can relax and take in the views of the mighty Zambezi. Activities include indulgent massages in the new wellness centre and visits to nearby Victoria Falls where an array of adventurous options are on offer.
Vumbura Plains Camp (Okavango Delta, Botswana) - Located in a part of the Delta that offers year-round water- and land-based activities, honeymooners can enjoy the serene experience of floating along the Okavango’s clear channels in a mokoro – or exciting game drives. The camp’s 14 spacious tents each have a private plunge pool and sala from which guests can soak up the panoramic views of the surrounding floodplain or enjoy a massage.
DumaTau Camp (Linyanti, Botswana) -With sweeping views of the adjacent river, each of DumaTau’s 10 tents is raised off the ground to make the most of the surrounding landscape. The room has clear-storey sliding doors, reinforcing the sense of openness, or for the ultimate immersion experience, spend the night on the nearby Star Bed, with nothing between you and the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere.
Abu Camp (Okavango Delta, Botswana) -Immerse yourself in the majestic world of the African elephant and interact with the Abu Herd, while learning more about the conservation of this fascinating species. The luxurious en-suite tents provide a sense of opulence, including an outdoor copper bath situated on the elevated teak decks.
North Island (Seychelles)-Widely recognised as the world’s most exclusive island escape, North Island is one of the Inner Islands of Seychelles, which are generally considered the most beautiful on Earth. Known for its “barefoot luxury” concept, North Island offers unparalleled levels of privacy, sophistication and comfort, making the most of its expansive white beaches and tropical waters.
Segera Retreat (Laikipia, Kenya)-This oasis provides honeymooners with the opportunity to escape into their own private wildlife sanctuary. The six timber and thatch villas look out over the Plateau and Mount Kenya, each with a private sun deck, swing bed and Jacuzzi bath. This is complemented by delicious “farm-to-fork” dining and a state-of-the-art wellness centre.
