Explorations with Wilderness Safaris
Little Kulala is a luxurious desert retreat situated in the private 27 000-hectare (67 000-acre) Kulala Wilderness Reserve – the gateway to Namibia's Sand Sea with its towering dunes and clear starry skies. Desert-adapted wildlife in the area is fascinating and is another dimension of this truly spectacular place.
Accommodation consists of 11 climate-controlled, thatched "kulalas" (the word means 'to sleep') which merge impeccably into the desert landscape, each with private plunge pool, both indoor and outdoor showers and a rooftop star bed for romantic star gazing. An elegant entertainment area includes a library, wine cellar, craft boutique, lounge and dining areas. Little Kulala’s interiors make use of neutral colours, gorgeous textures and natural light and takes its inspiration from its surroundings, notably from the magnificent Dead Vlei.
Visit the red sand sea of Sossusvlei and climb the dune known as Big Daddy, which rises a fabulous 300 metres above the valley floor.
Take a hot air balloon safari, a unique experience that allows you to soar silently above the magnificent sand dunes.
Get to Dead Vlei at first light to put your camera to the test: the enormous clay pan is flanked by sand dunes that stand out starkly against the blue sky and flush red in the early morning sun.
Take a walk or nature drive on Kulala Wilderness Reserve and see some of the desert denizens, from regal gemsbok to bat-eared fox.
Sleep out under the Milky Way and the Southern Cross on the roof of your “kulala.”
Quad bike across the wide-open spaces of the beautiful Kulala Wilderness Reserve.
Take a guided walk on the Black Mountain Trail, exploring the camp’s surrounds.
Visit the fascinating Sesriem Canyon, an ancient, deep ravine eroded by water and time.
Follow your guide on a night walk to look for scorpions that fascinatingly glow fluorescent under UV lights.
