Zimbabwe Exploration: Hwange Walking Safari

Wildlife on the Hwange Walking Safari

Hwange’s mix of different veld and woodland landscape types, including combetrum, terminalia, teak, false mopane and acacia, means that game viewing is productive and diverse. As this is an Exploration that takes place in the dry season, our pumped pans attract hordes of wildlife at this time of year, especially large herds of elephant. Other animals frequently encountered are lion, buffalo, leopard, spotted hyaena, giraffe, sable, blue wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and reedbuck.

Birdlife in the area is prolific and varied. Typical drier Kalahari birds include Kori bustard, crimson breasted shrike, scaly-feathered finch, cut-throat finch, swallow-tailed bee-eater, black-cheeked waxbill and southern pied babbler. The woodlands are home to other birding specials like Arnot's chat, Bradfield's hornbill and racket-tailed roller.
