Southern Africa Safaris trips with Wilderness Safaris

Designing your safari is an important part of your southern Africa safari trip. Given the immense diversity and topography of the continent, it is impossible to see everything in one trip or even a lifetime of return visits. Our dedicated team with more than 30 years’ experience of designing perfect safaris works with your travel agent to create life-changing journeys that suits your budget and bucket list. What is more, by travelling with Wilderness Safaris, you are helping to ensure the future protection of Africa's spectacular wildlife heritage and sharing the benefits of tourism with local communities.

Why travel with Wilderness Safaris
Our southern Africa safari trips are the finest as we have private access to almost three million hectares of Africa’s finest wildlife reserves in eight counties - Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe - that offer seclusion, comfort, privacy and space, far exceeding experiences in public access national parks. Our areas cover many habitats, thus allowing for incredibly diverse and all-round experiences, whether in the savannah, the rainforest, the desert or the ocean. We also offer complete, tailor-made services throughout southern Africa including logistics, sightseeing and accommodation both in our camps and third party properties. We operate our own bush airline, Wilderness Air, as well as a tours and transfers business, Wilderness Touring, creating a seamless journey and complete itinerary.

Our camps
With an impressive portfolio of some 50 camps and safaris, whether travelling as a couple, a family or on your own we have properties to satisfy every individual needs. These range from luxurious Premier and Classic camps, to comfortable Adventures camps, as well as mobile camping safaris known as Explorations. Our camps are typically small and intimate safari bases ranging in size from just three units to 20. Of paramount importance to us is that our camps have as little impact on the environment as possible.

Combining countries and regions
Before booking a safari you need to prioritise what you want to see and do. Our journey specialists will be able to focus your plans and suggest which southern Africa countries you should visit. Each country also has many regions and combining different areas is the best way to discover the diverse wildlife species that thrive in different habitats. Our camps are intentionally located where they are to make combinations both easy and rewarding.

When to visit
Seasonality is important in your consideration, as different parts of southern Africa, and even regions in those parts, are at their best at different times of the year. For example if you’d like to experience Africa’s season of birth and abundance, or you’re a birder, then summer is generally best. For those seeking dryer landscapes and teeming herds around limited water resources, winter is the season for you.
